HOW YOUR DONATIONS ARE USED

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

Overfishing, pollution, and habitat loss have decimated marine life globally. The world’s oceans need YOUR help.
The challenges our oceans face are significant, but with YOUR help, we can make a meaningful impact together. OCEARCH relies on the generosity of supporters like YOU to continue our critical work. Your tax-deductible donations empower our groundbreaking ocean research, advances species protection, supports human impact initiatives, and enables educational programs that inspire future ocean stewards.

HOW YOUR DONATIONS ARE USED

OCEAN RESEARCH:

OCEARCH is a leader in groundbreaking scientific methodologies. Conducting ocean based field research expeditions with capacity to deliver unprecedented access, data collection, and vital studies on our oceans giants and critically endangered species enables researchers and institutions around the globe. Overall scientific support and governance is provided to collaborating institutions, as well as assistance with marine rescue missions.

SPECIES PROTECTION:

Sharks are our oceans’ balance keepers. They regulate the abundance, distribution, and diversity of prey populations, which influences the health of other species and marine ecosystems. For the first time in history, data is documented to solve and manage world-wide white shark and other large shark populations. Newly discovered migratory patterns, critical habitats (nursery and foraging sites), life history information (reproductive cycles, age of maturity etc.), and more reveals potential threats to population recovery.

REAL-TIME TRACKING:

By offering live accessible data on the Global Shark Tracker™, OCEARCH empowers scientists and the public to engage with and learn from marine life in real-time. Our marine animal tracking program is an open-source initiative that shares the movements of sharks and other marine species tagged through OCEARCH expeditions, collaborator research, and animal rehabilitation efforts. This contributes to accelerated research, conservation, and public safety efforts.

HUMAN IMPACT INITIATIVES:

Human Impact Initiatives explore the connection between environmental issues that cross the boundaries of animal health, human health, and the ocean environment we share. Areas of critical study include, microplastics, heavy metal exposure, ocean and climate change, the discovery of new antibiotics, and care strategies for shark-related incidents. These efforts are designed to tackle environmental challenges while improving public health, safety, and food security.

COMBATING WILDLIFE TRAFFICKING:

This initiative focuses on equipping researchers and law enforcement in ports around the world with the necessary tools, lab equipment, and specialized training to combat illegal wildlife trafficking. By advancing research and providing cutting-edge resources, the program enhances the detection of endangered species and helps prevent wildlife trafficking. This program strengthens global efforts in preserving endangered shark and ray species and protecting biodiversity.

EDUCATION & OUTREACH:

OCEARCH is committed to sharing data and knowledge collected with the world through open-access programs. Developing critical data is necessary to inform the conservation and fisheries policies needed to protect sharks and rays globally. OCEARCH ensures the release of data through peer reviewed published papers, and media outreach. Free K-12 education curriculum empowers the next generation with knowledge about marine conservation, and key collaborations with partners, like Jacksonville University and ninety more institutions, advance valuable learning opportunities for students.
