Help complete our mission by sponsoring at least one ping.

Getting data from a shark fin in the middle of the ocean to a satellite in space so that it can be displayed on our tracker is a costly endeavor. Each ping costs $10. Help keep the tracker a free resource by sponsoring at least one ping.

Including Everyone in Our Mission

We put a lot of effort into open sourcing our data because it’s important that everyone feels included in our mission to protect the ocean. The OCEARCH Tracker is a free resource that connects everyone to the world-class science being conducted aboard the ship. Each message sent from a shark’s tag to the satellite carries vital information for the future of the species and the future of our oceans. The data is displayed in real time so everyone can learn at the same time and feel connected.

Donations directly help fund each ping so that we can keep the Tracker a free resource for everyone to engage with.

How the Tracker Works
During the 15 minutes or less a shark is on our research platform, our team attaches a Smart Position and Temperature (SPOT) tag to the shark’s dorsal fin. This tag transmits a “ping” containing latitude and longitude location coordinates to us via satellite whenever the shark’s fin breaches the water. This data is displayed for free on our OCEARCH Tracker so that everyone can follow the sharks and other animals.
