Explorer and expedition leader Chris Fischer returns for season two of Shark Men, joining science and sport fishing for an unprecedented hands-on research effort to study wild great white sharks. A well-known personality in outdoor television and conservation circles, Fischer is a lifelong adventurer with a passion for the oceans. In 2009, Chris founded OCEARCH, a non-profit organization with a global reach for unprecedented research on the ocean’s giants.
BRETT MCBRIDE
Captain
Brett is captain of MV Ocean. He began working on fishing boats at age 12 and went on to work on day-charter boats, long-range charter boats, and long-range private yachts. Over the past 14 years, he has fished from Alaska to Central America as a leading member of ESPN2’s “Offshore Adventures” and in the past 7 years, has won or placed in numerous billfishing tournaments.
JODY WHITWORTH
Second Captain
Jody has been fishing for 25 years ― most recently on ships over 100 feet long ― and has traveled by sea to over 30 countries around the world. He got involved in this expedition to learn more about the Great White, and got face to face with a 4,000 plus pound great white, which became one of his greatest experiences ever.
LUIS TORRES
Chef
Luis Torres was born in Panama City, Panama. He began working in the culinary arts as a teenager in Panama and Japan. After working in hotels and restaurants for may years he combined his passion for food and the ocean by joining the M.V. Ocean Team.
DAVE OLSON
Corporate Chef / Underwater Photographer
Dave is a classically trained chef with years of restaurant experience and recipes published in Gourmet magazine. But his love of the ocean propelled him into also diving and photographing ocean creatures. His most shocking encounter for this expedition was filming underwater video of a shark “with chomping jaws coming right at me.” He held his ground to get the shot.
DENNY WAGNER
Ship Engineer “We’re going for the biggest predatory fish in the world and, and every little thing we’re seeing we’re trying to process, and play the chess game.” Growing up in Alaska, Denny Wagner developed a love for adventure both on and off the water. At fourteen he began commercial fishing and by twenty had evolved into a licensed sport fishing charter captain. His pursuits in both sport and commercial fishing took him all over the state of Alaska including the Bering Sea. When a mentor asked Dennis if he wanted to try fishing in warmer southern waters he jumped at the opportunity. Serving as Chief Engineer on vessels up to 5,000 horsepower has given him the opportunity fish and explore from Alaska to Panama.
TODD GOGGINS
Deckhand “I’ve been a fisherman for as long as I can remember... I just turned 24. So here I am now, doing what I want to do. Hand lining a great white shark is pretty much the epitome for every fisherman.”
Todd Goggins born and raised In South Florida was introduced to the outdoors at a very early age. He picked up fishing in his backyard and quickly graduated from Jon boats and lakes to center consoles and the ocean. When he is not fishing, he is hunting with his bow, for deer, turkey and wild hogs. All of this has been a life long obsession and he knew some way, some how he was going to make a career of it. Upon Graduating from Florida State University he was privileged enough to be offered a job aboard the Mother Ship Ocean which he now calls home.
JUAN VALENCIA
Deckhand
Juan Valencia was born in East Los Angeles and grown up in different parts of Southern California. He began working at an early age with his uncle in the flooring industry while attending school. At the age of fifteen he left home and began working in the construction business and eventually found his way into the marine refitting industry. He was given the opportunity to work on the M.V. Ocean when he was 25 years old. He has been on the mothership for 2 years as a deckhand and enjoys every minute of it.
ALEX SNOW
Deckhand
Alex Snow is a native Texan who grew up fishing and hunting on his family's ranch. He attended Texas A&M University and was lucky to intern for a summer aboard the MV Ocean. After graduation, he was eager to join the team once again.
BRANDON EYRE
Deckhand / Research Assistant / Camera Operator “I’m still pinching myself on a regular basis, going ‘what did I just do?’”
Brandon studied marine biology at the University of the Virgin Islands, taking part in oceanographic studies with NOAA and coral/fish propagation studies on Caribbean reefs. Over six years, he worked for several aquariums and aquatic wholesalers and later become Curator of Animals for The Living Planet Aquarium in Utah. He joined the team originally as a marine animal consultant.
DAVE "WHITEY" EVANS
Deckhand
A commercial whitewater guide for over twenty five years, Whitey now runs 12-day expeditions in the Canadian Arctic, and in the Fall, runs a fishing lodge in British Columbia. Whitey worked beside Dr. Domeier during the expeditions, attaching GPS tags to the dorsal fin of the shark.
